Abstract:Acute otitis media is a common disease in children but a cerebellar abscess may develop as a rare complication. The lethality is still high even in the era of modern computed tomography (CT) scanning and sufficient antibiotic therapy. In the present case a 12-year-old boy died from an intracerebellar abscess after a 4 week interval from the beginning of characteristic ear pain for otitis media. Clinically, the initial ear pain changed to uncharacteristic symptoms during the course of the disease without manifestation of the classical triad headache, fever and focal neurologic deficits.
