Title: | Can the presence of micrometastases in patients with colorectal cancer be used to help guide treatment? |
Creators Name: | Bembenek, A. and Schlag, P.M. |
Abstract: | The first thing to note from the article by Bilchik et al. is that SLN biopsy is not useful for rectal cancer staging. This finding is attributable to the often locally advanced disease found in patients with rectal cancer and the detrimental influence of neoadjuvant irradiation therapy on lymphatic mapping. The results of Bilchik and colleagues concerning the use of SLN biopsy for rectal cancer staging support those of former studies. The following discussion will, therefore, be restricted only to patients with colon cancer. |
