| Title: | Solute excretion, metabolism, and cardio-renoprotection via two distinct mechanisms revolutionize clinical outcomes |
| Creators Name: | Luft, F.C. |
| Abstract: | Two pharmacological principles, one at least 80 years old and another over 60 years old have recently come to fruition. The first, phlorizin, was thought to cause diabetes, but then a closer look revealed a renal mechanism that was independent of insulin or insulin deficiency. Research into its action facilitated the discovery of sodium-dependent glucose transporters. The second compound came close on the heels of the discovery that the mineralocorticoid, aldosterone, can be released through the action of angiotensin II. |
